DD and Madison in NYC

~~The Gayla Pink Apple~~

Every morning, Blair or I would walk a couple blocks and get two large coffees.  We alternated who made the short walk.  The decision was whether it would be Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts (DD).

I'm not a die hard Starbucks or Dunkin fan.  Doesn't really matter to me, I just wanted a large coffee.  I will admit I have watched myself gravitate to Dunkin.  I am surprised, too.

First, I really like Dunkin's pumpkin coffee better than Starbucks.  Second, I like their breakfast sandwiches better, too.  On the other hand, I didn't dislike Starbucks coffee or breakfast sandwiches.  But, I found myself taking a right turn at the corner most mornings.  That means I'm going to Dunkin.  Maybe I turned right because I'm right handed?!

After finishing our Jingle Bell run last Saturday morning, Blair and I stopped in to get our daily large coffee.  We reached Dunkin first so that's where we stopped.   It's a Saturday morning and families are out with their small children in strollers, etc.  We ordered our coffees and moved to the side to wait.

A young mother and her small child are in line behind us.  The little girl is maybe two years old.  The Dunkin employee says to the Mother, "does Madison want to come pick out her donut?"  The little girl, in her pink puffy coat and hat, gets down from her Mother's arms, waddles past the swinging door and walks behind the counter.  The young girl (employee) picks up Madison and they walk over for the child to point to which donut she wants.  The lady puts it in a sack and adds a couple donut holes.  She lowers the child back down from her arms, and the little girl, with a big smile, walks back to her Mother.  She is so proud of herself.  You can tell she has done that a few times.  She knew just which donut she wanted. How sweet for the Dunkin employee to give that child such special attention.

Blair and I looked at each other, both thinking the same thing.  How sweet - if you told me, that an employee of a very busy coffee shop in NYC, would stop and take the time, to give a little girl special attention like that, I wouldn't have believed you.  But, I saw it for myself.  Now, I'm definitely a Dunkin fan!

Just sharing,
Gayla
